Do you have any ideas for jazzing up Jack and the Beanstalk?

Jack and the Beanstalk is a great classic story for children.  Aside from reading aloud any of the great illustrated versions, you could accompany this classic with any of these ideas:

  • There are many older manuscripts dating back from the 1800’s.  You could use versions found from here or here to share with students and study the changes in the English language.
  • Another option might be to read an annotated version found here on SurLanLune fairytales.com.  In this way, context may be given to Jack and the Beanstalk readers.  There are many historical explanations for the word choice in this fairy tale.
  • Finally, watching a version of Jack and the Beanstalk would be fun.  There’s a 1933 version found here from Youtube.com while BBC offers a more up to date version found here.
