Is it possible to talk without speaking?

Yes, it is! Especially by chatting online! Let’s try….

First, please join me by going to this site:  http://dearlibrarian.com.

chatzy21Then link to this Chatzy Room already set up for us to talk without speaking.  I’ll start the first few chats, but feel free to also start one.  When you go to this link, first put in your name or alias and then click on “join.”  You’re in.  Welcome! And start talking;D

Remember a couple of things about chatting:

  • Capital letters are used to emphasize, but if used too much they seem like shouting.  Shortened text is all right in chatting.
  • Here’s a Text Speak Dictionary if you’d like to know some terms used.  Feel free to experiment and definitely ask when you don’t understand.  It’s normal. Believe me!
  • Don’t worry about spelling too much–at times you might be typing too fast to correct yourself.  And punctuation becomes optional during a chat.
  • And emoticons are all right.  They help to display humor while speaking without words.  Here’s a guide to help show your different emotions.

Here’s a sample of what the Chatzy screen looks like.  I added a few pointers in this screen.

For other chatting applications besides Chatzy, you could use Google Talk, Skype, or Meebo just to name a few.
