What were your favorite books from 2012?

I had a great year of reading–especially once I knew I was moving on to a high school library. The transition in age level reminded me how much I do love young adult literature. It’s just soooo good!

There are five books that stand out in my mind from 2012. I am not sure if I should place them in order or just state them. Some were realistic while others were fantasy. With so many series out there, I also tried a handful of the first book of several series, like Divergent, Uglies, and City of Bones. In the end though, there are these five, that I keep going back to, keep relying on, and keep recommending to all my chick lit readers in the HKIS HS Library. (Sorry Guys, these books are highly estrogen packed–except for one that EVERYONE should read! Ok, almost two!)

I’ll divide the five into two groups: very, very good, and OMG! Read this!

These three books are so good:

Right away, within the first 10 pages, the car accident happens, so that isn't a spoiler. The following pages however are the ones that are gripping! The narrator, Mia, is in a coma after the car crash. What's chilling is that she needs to decide whether to live or not....hence the title, If I Stay. This is a really good book, and the sequel, Where She Went, is a superb follow up in Adam's narration (the boyfriend).

This book may be compared to the dystopian novel Hunger Games, yet I liked Katsa a little better than Katniss. She's similarly humble just not as righteous. Her hero is also a little more believable than Peta.

This is a fun and quirky time traveling book. Don't be afraid of an overload of fantasy. It's just the perfect amount with an also perfect amount of romance. Time travel just happens to run in the genes for this family. I loved reading this book. The major frustration is that it's a trilogy, so while Sapphire Blue is out, Emerald Green won't be out until next fall. Talk about anticipation!

And these two are OMG! (These are the two that I think guys would also like.)

This book is just HOT! It's magical and artistic, it's scary and confusing, it's nostalgic and mystical. I want to say it's a cross between Twilight and Percy Jackson, but it's so much better than both of those. This is a sexy read--one that I will read again!

I'm a rather old reader, yet when a book can give me the butterflies (the romantic kind) five times in one book? Well, I'm sold. This book is fabulous! It's not stop, one night, and it's love--in a fast and furious way! I love this book!

It’s non-stop, one night, and it’s love–in a fast and furious way! I love this book! Would you kiss a random guy on a favor? Norah would, and thank goodness she did ’cause it was Nick!
